Dr. W.R. Hayes

Waymond Hayes serves as the Director of Early Education at Focus: HOPE, Executive Director of MEN (Mentoring, Empowering, New Fathers), and Co-Owner of Blue Guys
Real Estate LLC. His journey in early childhood education began when he was one of the first students to attend a Head Start program on the southeast side of Detroit. He later made history as the first male center administrator to open a Head Start All-Male Leadership Academy within the same agency and at the same location.

 

With more than 30 years of experience in early childhood education, Waymond credits his deep family involvement in the field as the foundation of his passion and commitment to serving children and families.

 

Waymond earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development from Oakland Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education/Family Studies from Rochester College, and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Oakland University. He earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Spalding University.

Waymond is an active community leader, serving as Vice President of the Michigan Head Start Association Board of Directors and as President of the Genesis Board of Directors. He is also a frequent workshop presenter and keynote speaker, providing training for educators, families, and community organizations on a wide range of early childhood and family engagement topics.

 

In addition to his professional work, Waymond is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., where he integrates service, leadership, and community outreach. Through these efforts, he has helped orchestrate comprehensive programs and supportive services that benefit children and families. Waymond remains committed to advancing early childhood education and strengthening communities, guided by Phi Beta Sigma’s motto, “Culture for Service and Service for Humanity.”
